Welcome to the future of home building! Nestled in the heart of Kotare Park, Cambridge, our newest endeavour is not just a house; it's a testament to innovation, sustainability, and unparalleled comfort.

As the construction of our high-performance SIPs showhome unfolds at 1 Whakahaumako Rd, Kotare Park, Cambridge we invite you to embark on a journey with us, exploring the cutting-edge technologies and design principles that redefine the way we live.

Breaking Boundaries in Building Standards

At Higgs Building Co, we're not content with meeting building codes; we're determined to surpass them. Our showhome challenges the status quo by utilising alternative construction techniques and materials that set a new benchmark for energy efficiency and thermal performance. Designed by the visionary team at Tawa Architecture, every aspect of this home has been meticulously crafted to optimise performance and comfort.

Maximizing Efficiency from the Ground Up

The foundation of any high-performance home is crucial, which is why we've turned to MAXRaft for our MAXSlab system. By integrating 200mm of S-grade insulation with the MAXRaft edge perimeter and 100mm of concrete, we've achieved an impressive R-value of 3.75, double the requirements of the NZ building code. This thermal bridge-free design ensures minimal heat loss through the floor, laying a solid foundation for future living.

Structural Insulated Panels: The Future of Construction

Formance Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are engineered for both thermal efficiency and structural robustness, they offer unparalleled insulation properties and airtightness, creating a warm, comfortable living environment like no other.

With SIPs seamlessly integrated into our design, we've expanded our showhome with a spacious loft area that acts as second story, all without the need for conventional framing, showcasing the limitless possibilities of modern construction methods.

Next steps in our show home build

As we move forward, we're excited to install our high-performance windows supplied by Wright Aluminum. Featuring APL ThermalHeart Centrafix Joinery, these windows and doors, have a remarkable impact on thermal performance - almost doubling the performance of standard aluminium joinery. With the innovative Centrafix™ installation method, thermal performance is further increased by over 20%.

and The Centrafix™ installation method involves recessing the joinery within the wall cavity, strategically aligning various insulation components including the wall, window frame, and glazing. This groundbreaking technique eliminates thermal breaks, enhances insulation within the frames, and effectively reduces heat loss and drafts, making it a pivotal component of our show home’s energy-efficient design.

Why build a high-performance home?

The answer lies in the numerous benefits it offers, from energy efficiency and sustainability to comfort and long-term cost savings. Our showhome is a testament to these benefits, projected to consume 70% less energy than a standard NZ building code home while maintaining a consistent indoor temperature of 20 degrees throughout the year. It's not just a house; it's a vision of the future, where homes are not just spaces to inhabit but environments to thrive in.
